Painless childbirth: the main thing - is the correct preparation

Many women are afraid of giving birth because it may cause pain.  Few people know that childbirth can be painless - it depends on woman’s attitude toward giving birth. Different stories about unbearable pain reflect on women and they expect the same outcome.

Pain occurs during childbirth because the body and cervix are stretched, soft tissues of vagina are compressed while the baby’s head appears. Woman’s thoughts, her knowledge on childbirth and attitude towards newborn’s appearance have a great impact as well. The better the woman’s psychological adjustment is, the less pain is experienced during childbirth.

It is proved that the woman who looks forward to the child's birth experience less pain during labor, than the woman who doesn’t want the baby be born. Thus a mother-to-be should be excited while she waits for newborn’s appearance.  Pregnant ones should learn about childbirth as much as possible, its stages and manners of behavior during labor. Ignorance only generates fear and pain during the childbirth.  There are a lot of literature and trainings in order to learn about everything in details.

Active moves not only help distract from pain, but also relieve it during childbirth. Moves provide an uterus with supplementary oxygen, which suffers from its shortcoming during labor. Thus it is preferable for a woman keep moving, try to find convenient position of a body and breathe correctly during labor. Shouts don’t ease pain, but waste strengths and necessary oxygen. If possible the woman should palm the lower part of her belly or massage the aitch area during labor. Reading poems aloud or even the repeating of the multiplication table may be helpful.

Sometimes doctors use the narcotic analgetics, such as promedol or morphine. They don't ease pain completely, but reduce its manifestations. Usually drugs could be combined with antispasmodics, which help an uterus to relax, expand vessels and improve blood supply. Often drugs are applied to provide drug-induced sleep if a woman is already tired and the end of the childbirth is near. The following points should be considered while using drug analgetics: the application of those is justified when cervix opening is not less than on three-four centimeters and considering that there is not less than two hours before the end of childbirth.  At the violation of these conditions a baby can be born with a lack of independent breath, and the woman in labor will be sluggish and sleepy during the attempts if you won't take into consideration these circumstances.

Epidural anesthesia is the most modern way to relieve pain. Epidural anesthesia is carried out by the anesthesiologist, who later watches the course of childbirth together with the obstetrician. The essence of this method is introduction of anesthetic in epidural (under a firm cover) space of a spinal cord at the level of waist. Lidocaine or marcaine are used as anesthetics. After carrying out the procedure the woman ceases to feel pain during labor. Epidural anesthesia is used among women with pregnancy complications (preeclampsia) and childbirth complications (discoordination of patrimonial forces), and also among women who have no psychological adjustment.

Every mother-to-be should remember that the good physical form, the correct breath and psychological preparation help to go through a painless childbirth.
